September 11, 2007 8:06 am work, n00b-gaijinWell I began my on the job training yesterday, and I must say it went a little better than I expected it to. Unfortunately it looks like work is going to keep me fairly busy, but I will do my best to get some more backlogged junk up from this past weekend soon. Hope everyone back home is well!
P.S. How long is jet lag supposed to last? lol

Great blog, I’m looking forward to reading about your perspective on Japan. I went from 2003-2005 on JET when I was 25-27. Best experience of my life and I know you’ll have a great time.
I hope your contract with your company works out. I know that company is having difficulties, but there is never a shortage of opportunities for good English instructors, especially in and around Tokyo. Don’t sell yourself short!
Later,
Michael

Thanks for the comment and well wishes Michael. I’m definitely loving it here, every day is something new and exciting. Where were you placed when you came over with JET?

I was placed in a town (city?) called Sanda, in Hyogo prefecture. I was equidistant north of Osaka and Kobe, two of my favorite places. Kansai is such a different culture and atmosphere from Tokyo. If you have a chance to travel, I highly recommend you check out Osaka and Kobe.
FYI, I am a midwesterner, too. My family hails from Wausau, though my immediate family and myself are from Michigan. Japan’s culture is similar enough to the midwest that making friends and getting comfortable there should go more smoothly for ya.
Great news about your Mother. I hope her health continues to improve!
